Is September a good time to visit Tunisia?

The summer crowds have waned in the Tunisian beach resorts by September, but the summery weather is as fine as ever, making this month almost perfect for a holiday in this north African country. Temperatures have dropped slightly from the summer highs, and there is a slight increase in the risk of rain, but most travellers to Tunisia in September find they stay dry and enjoy lovely, languid beach days under blue skies and bathed in bright sunshine.

Expect maximum temperatures of around 29°C (84.2°F) in the hot spots like Hammamet, Port el Kantaoui and Sousse during September, dropping by around 10°C (50°F) at night. There will still be around nine hours of sunshine a day in Tunisia during September, but the average rainfall for the month has increased markedly from the dry days of August, with 37mm being anticipated over an average of five wet days. Most travellers, however, report only one or two incidents of showers during a two-week break in Tunisia in September.

What to pack for a holiday in Tunisia in September

Bring your beachwear, light cotton shorts and shirts for going out and about, and some cool, comfortable smart casual wear for evenings. If you tend to feel the chill on your sun-tanned skin bring a cardigan for after dark.
