Weather in Mexico in April

Is April a good time to visit Mexico?

Daylight savings time kicks in in Mexico at the beginning of April, which means this is officially summer  - although summer weather rarely leaves this sunny country with its famed seaside resorts and hot conditions. There is a risk of some rain across Mexico in April, but for the most part the coastal resorts swelter under brilliant blue skies and enjoy ubiquitious high temperatures, with the risk of nasty tropical storms still many weeks away.

Climate in Mexico in April

April is literally the calm before the storm in Mexico – the last chance to enjoy the relatively dry weather before the onslaught of the rainy season, which begins in June in most regions. The average temperature in the cool highlands of Mexico City rises gradually towards the 20°C (68°F) mark, while Cancun and the Yucatan Peninsula resorts of the east coast enjoy tropical heat, days sizzling at up to 30°C (88°F), cooling off only slightly at night. The Pacific coast beaches are hot and sunny, too, in April.

What to pack for a holiday in Mexico in April

Swimsuits, sarongs, shorts and skimpy shirts are the order of the day for Mexico’s beaches during April. Unless you are going inland to a high elevation it is a case of “no jacket required” at this time of year. Take a tip from the locals though and don’t forget your version of a sombrero and any other form of sun protection you can find. In the central part of the country and the arid north it will be cool to cold at night, so a sweater and anorak will be good companions.
